TRAINING “ACADEMIC WRITING: TOOLS FOR INTEGRITY”

We are pleased to invite University professors and students of PhD programs to participate in a 2-day training “Academic writing as a tool for integrity” that will be lead by Victoria Taylor, PhD in Rhetorical and Communication.  The seminar is aimed to provide an EL Specialist’s assistance to Ukrainian higher education institutions, professors and PhD students uncovering practical implications of academic writing, using it as a tool for further promotion of students’ scientific potential worldwide. English as a language of international scientific communication will enable students to promote their research ideas as well as to seek and develop potential ideas across fields of studies.

•    American Councils for International Education (Strengthening Academic Integrity in Ukraine Project - SAIUP)

WORK PLAN:
DAY 1: Writing theory especially issues applicable for teaching non-native English speakers / writers; working through the research process from Inquiry to drafting a research question or hypothesis; gathering information, reading and annotating scientific articles; summarizing and paraphrasing.
DAY 2: Plagiarism: definitions, why students cheat, how students cheat, what teachers can do with or without the support of the institution; writing the research paper Introduction; writing a synthesis and literature review; peer reviews; responding to writing; revising and editing strategies.

DEMANDS TO THE CANDIDATES:
•    To have level of English B1+
•    To have experience in preparing academic papers/abstracts
•    To be a professor/PhD student in Ukrainian University

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Coordinator, Graduate Academic Writing, 2006 – present (Koc University, Istanbul, Turkey)
• Coordinate course seminars, conduct training for instructors, liaise with GSSSH and GSSE coordinators to plan and update seminars
• Conduct orientation and training for new instructors
• Teach Advanced Academic Writing for Graduate Students
• Teach Scientific Writing and Publishing for PhD level students
• Teach Introduction to Academic Writing and Advanced Academic Writing for undergraduates
• Provide editing assistance to faculty as needed

ALL TOPICS WILL BE DELIVERED INTERACTIVELY WITH A TRAIN-THE-TRAINER APPROACH.
PARTICIPANTS WHO ATTENDED FULL TWO-DAYS TRAINING WILL BE AWARDED WITH CERTIFICATE.

15.00-16.00 – lunch time (lunch is not provided by organization committee)
